So thanks to Nike for sending over a sneak peek at Roger Federer's US Open duds.
Like last year, the former no. 1 (still sounds funny, huh?) will be working two different looks for the occasion. He'll debut the Federer Sphere React Cool Manhattan Polo ($60) in smoke/comet red/white which features a closed placket and double seams running down the front. The shirt is lacking some detailing, though - it seems flat though the color gives some pop.
The shirt is paired with the Swiss stylist's fave Control Short ($45) in smoke - which I'm totally loving. adidas used grey earlier in the season on Nole but this darker tone is great for fall.
As for the second outfit...well, let's say I'm having flashbacks of a certain someone's catsuit:
Addtionally, Nike is offering the headband ($12) and wristbands ($10) in smoke (though I highly doubt he'll be wearing an all-smoke outfit - gag) and the comet + white Air Zoom Vapor V ($115)he sported in Beijing.

FASHION FIX: Preview of Rafa's Nike Olympic style

Here's a sneak peek at Rafael Nadal's Nike shirt for the Beijing Olympics to go along with the preview of Roger Federer's duds I wrote about earlier this month.
Rafa will be working his fave look - the Nike Nadal Olympia Sleeveless in red with a yellow Nike swoosh and the Spanish flag of course. I'm not sure about the shorts but he'll most likely keep things simple and stick with his lucky Longer Length shorts.
If it ain't broke people...

FASHION FIX: Rafa returns with win, debuts new Nike design
Rafael Nadal, like Federer, played his first match since his Wimbledon triumph at the Rogers Masters but this one, unlike Federer's, went according to plan.
The 5-time Grand Slammer started slowly against American Jesse Levine, going down 1-4 in the opening set, but got his game in gear and took a easy 6-4, 6-2 decision.
Rafa also debuted a new Nike Dri-Fit Power Sleeveless design in cobalt blue that features something resembling claw marks (are those yours Fed?) on the front. For shorts, the Spaniard is still working his lucky Longer Length Short in white which he wore during his run to the Wimby title.
Nice change up - solid blue color - not trying too hard. I like!

FASHION FIX: Sharapova's Wimbledon outfit revealed? Maybe so!

The time has come for the annual "Maria Mystery": what will the Russian fashionista be wearing on the green lawns of Wimbledon this year?
Suffice it to say I would be completely shocked and a bit impressed if Nike and Maria came up with the following outfit for her to wear. Traditionally the 21-year old leans towards dresses, and there is also a dress option this year, but what she's wearing in the ad campaign is the Sharapova Wimbledon Sleeveless Top and the Sharapova Wimbledon Woven Short from the White/Gold Collection.
The top is reminiscent of a men's suit vest with the 3-button placket on the front (and we know how much Maria's been loving that look.) The dreaded shorty-shorts, which I've never liked, make up the bottom of this outfit. I like that they're not super low-rise and have interesting 2-button detailing on the waistband and a cinch on the back. I'll take a wait-and-see approach on the shorts.
The second option, which would be the obvious choice for the Russian, is the Wimbledon Tiered Pleats Dress which looks similar to the much ballyhooed Swan Dress from last year's Championships. The dress is essentially a tank dress with triple-tiered pleating and a keyhole back. Simple, elegant and classic.
Here's the description:
Under the tagline "Pretty Traditional", this slogan represents not only the underlying beauty of the dress as well as a double meaning inferring its traditional design albeit with a non-conservative approach. Sharapova was also given the Wimbledon Blazer Mid Lux, a reinvented version of the classic Blazer basketball shoe. As part of the Grand Slam Lux Line, it combines top quality premium leather coupled with high-class touches such as satin ribbon laces. The sneaker also draws references to Maria's appreciation of the Wimbledon Tennis Dress with ruffles on the back tab.
Say what?! A basketball shoe with ruffles paired with that dress?? So they've clipped her wings and given her high tops. Innovative.
I searched around and found a version of a Nike Blazer Mid Lux, and if Maria's working something close to these shoes, I'll die, die, die:

FASHION FIX: Azarenka loses in Prague but wins with style

Although Victoria Azarenka lost the fourth final of her young career to Vera Zvonareva this weekend at Prague, the Belarusian was a clear winner in the tennis fashion game.
I'm liking the 18-year old's affinity for classic looks with a twist of femininity as evidenced by her polka-dotted moment from Miami. Victoria continued that style in Prague looking spot-on in the white Nike Volley Women's Top with lilac trim and the black Rally Skirt.

Get it while it's hot: Nole's sweat-soaked adidas shirt avaiable on eBay
Don't sweat it: How would you like to own a used, sweat-filled adidas shirt worn by Novak Djokovic during his Aussie Open championship run? Well, if you're into that kind of stank you can - for some serious dough, though. The shirt is being auctioned off on eBay starting with a ridiculous bid of $4, 999.00!
Here's the description on the item:
"This shirt was worn by new Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic in the Men's Final on Sun 27 January 2008We love how "full of sweat!" is a selling point for this item - ingenious. But seriously, we wouldn't pay that much for anyone's sweat. Well...let's not be hasty...
Caught (full of sweat!) in the audience Row A Seat 108
Comes with the ticket as a proof of authenticity, plus any photos as needed.
Collectable Value - Novak is the first Serbian to win a Grand Slam final and the youngest ever winner at Melbourne Park.
Will post world-wide"

FASHION FIX: Nike bores to tears, Winter Global Power Sleeveless in blue needs to go
End of our rope: Believe us, we like this Nike shirt. We think the colors are great and it shows off the player's sexy guns. But we're through and bored, frankly. We've seen our fill of the Winter Global Power Sleeveless Top in crystal blue at this week's Madrid Masters. The Spanish trio - Rafael Nadal, Carlos Moya, Feliciano Lopez - and the fiery Austrian Stefan Koubek have all sported it during their matches here and elsewhere, sometimes at the same time.
Hello - the shirt also comes in 2 other great colors, people. We're beating an already dead horse, but tour stylist anyone?!!

FASHION FIX: Lacoste's up n' down year and Tatiana's tangerine dream
We think Frenchie fashion label Lacoste has been very hit-or-miss this year. The hits? The men's tennis gear, most recently with Fabrice Santoro's super cute candy-striped polo matched with white shorts for the US Open. The misses? The women's on-court fashion with the latest being Tatiana Golovin's "tangerine dream" for this week's Porshce Tennis Grand Prix - or dare we say nightmare?
Of course, we must put a fair amount of the blame on the players themselves. Tati just went overboard wearing the same orange color for both the top and skirt, similar to Marat Safin and his adidas "haz-mat" outfit.
We keep saying it but the tours could use a full-time stylist - any takers?

PREVIEW: Rafael Nadal's US Open '07 Nike gear
A huge "thanks!" to Rafael Nadal's PR team for handing us this preview of what clothing sponsor, Nike, is outfitting the World No. 2 in for his run to the US Open title.
"The essence of Rafael’s on-court look, featuring not only superior style, but also advanced Nike Sphere React Dry technology."
"Conquer the court with the same attitude and style as Nadal in these all-condition three-quarter length Dri-FIT shorts."
"An elite-level shoe designed with enhanced torsional rigidity and durable XDR rubber compound to enhance the powerful plays Nadal’s known for."
We are loving the fashion color combo - it definitely plays up the Spaniard's personality and boundless energy.
Could this be Rafa's big win off the clay? We know one thing: New York is ready for Rafa!
