Another hairy situation solved: del Potro gives hair a good name

Juan Martin del Potro
made a smooth start to his Wimbledon campaign. The 19-year old Argentine pummeled Czech Pavel Snobel 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 and will take on rising Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in the next round.

I love that Juan Martin has finally tamed his hairy situation and he even did it in stages. The image on the far right is from last season's US summer hardcourt swing when I first noticed the severity of his issue. The center is from last month's Roland Garros where the Argentine was finally gaining control, though he was still wearing something close to a mullet. The far left image is from today's match where Juan Martin finally hits the right balance. Ahhh!

You see? Slowly, but surely, it's possible to make the change. Ask Andy Murray too.

THE LOW DOWN: Juan Martin hits a new low, becomes a mama-basher

Now how could you insult this innocent-looking woman? Juan Martin Del Potro saw something so mean, so evil in Judy Murray that he did something you never do: insult someone's mama.

During last night's first round match between Juan and Andy Murray, things got heated after an exchange at the net according to Andy:

I played a serve-and-volley and hit a bad volley in the middle of the service box and he came in and hit a full-power backhand straight at my head. I would have thought it's normal to apologize for something like that, and not to get an apology was a little bit disappointing. After that, the next two or three points I was maybe shouting, "Come on," a little bit more than I usually do.
Apparently the incident led to the insult and Andy was understandably bothered:
Someone saying something about your mother who is one of the nicest ladies you're ever going to meet? I don't think that's really that cool.
Yeah that was a low-blow Juan, you mama-basher.

FASHION FIX: Nike continues their tedious tennis sponsorship

This is getting bad: We harped on Nike's recent repeat performance with their players' tennis gear at the Madrid Masters and now they're at it again. Feliciano Lopez and Juan Martin Del Potro played against each other at the Paris Masters today, but they might as well have been playing with themselves.

How boring for the fans, frankly, to see two players battling it out on the same tennis court looking like mirror images of each other. If you're sitting in the nose bleed sections, you can't tell who's who.

Nike - tennis is not a team sport, it's an individual sport. Get it?
