THE LOW DOWN: A new coach for JJ at Wimbledon?

Remember when Jelena Jankovic was asked about a possible coaching switch after her lost to Sorana Cirstea at Roland Garros?

Well, it seems she may have dumped Ricardo Sanchez. The boys on ESPN - Chris Fowler + Darren Cahill - mentioned she arrived to The All England Club with Chip Hooper, an apparently well-known coach from back in the day who teaches unorthodox methods including something called "karate tennis". WTF?!

It seems strange but somehow very fitting for JJ.

Anyone have any more info?

  1. I remember when she was struggling to find a permanent coach and was almost begging Sanchez to coach her. Times have changed, huh. Idk... for me, it seems like a mental thing for JJ. If she could just be more mentally tougher during those tight situations she could go further. Bulking up didn't work out for her, so maybe working on the mental part, not so much the technicality of her game, might be the way to go.

  2. What is she getting herself into?!!!!

  3. Chuck Norris doesn't need second serve: he serves only aces.

  4. An unusual choice for a coach yes. But only the strange and unusual is good enough for my JJ.

  5. I don't know about karate tennis, but Chip hooper was a very tall US player of limited renown in the 80's. He had one or two reasonable grand slam appearances--a 3rd or 4th round appearance at Flushing Meadow, I think, maybe at Wimby...
