FASHION FIX: Fila returns to its roots with the Heritage collection

Dmitry Tursunov - Men's Heritage Stripe Polo

Though their ballers didn't fare so well in Miami, Fila's fashion game turn returned to its winning ways.

The sports apparel brand went back into their archives to launch the Fila Heritage line at this week's Sony Ericsson Open. This line comes courtesy of the Spring 2009 collection and harks back to the heydays of the 1970's when Bjorn Borg's iconic look (LOVE), which featured signature Italian styling, brought the brand some of its greatest popularity. This time, however, the gear gets the 21st century treatment with state of the art performance fabrications.

Each piece features the F-Box Heritage patch logo and the quintessential Fila colors of red, white, and blue.

The men's Heritage Stripe Polo details include a self fabric collar, 4-button placket and side vents, a snap contrast placket and contrast piping. The collection also includes 8 ½ ” inseam shorts, jacket and warm-up pants and was worn by Dmitry Tursunov (top).

Anna Chakvetadze - Cami Tank

Anna Chakvetadze wore her fave cami-tank from the Women's Heritage collection during her matches in Miami. Details on this piece include ruching on the center front and contrast twist back straps. Chaky also showed up to the Fila Friday Night Q & A host by Cliff Drysdale working the Heritage Jacket.

And a big shout out to the Fila PR team for all the info!

  1. I wish the guys would go back to wearing short, shorts like Borg, especially Rafa!

  2. Agreed - I'm all for shorty-shorts in all sports especially tennis, football/soccer, and basketball. More leg, more leg - just not as much as Tipsy was showing. That's too much of A LOT of stuff that we don't need to see.

  3. Borg's outfit is hot, Rafa would send me into a tizzy if he suited up in that!!

Matter of fact, I wish all the Spanish ballers would wear that. Maybe a Davis Cup uniform?? ;)

  4. I WISH that the men's clothes were as tight as Björn's used to be! It looks so much better than the baggy, unshapely stuff that a lot of them wear nowadays.
*flove* the Heritage Jacket, though. That one actually looks cool and retro. The rest of the stuff is just kinda boring.

  5. Hah, you got there before me, Johanne. Again, couldn't agree more with what you say!

  6. It's like one mind, CC. One mind :D

  7. I echo what Johanne and CC are saying. I love how well Borg's clothes fit him. I hate the huge loosy-goosy outfits some of the guys -- especially the Americans, it seems -- wear. What are they trying to hide?

  8. I usually refer to American sizing (coming from this American only) as "sausage sizing".

It's meant for people who've grown up with way too many hormones in their food. Ick.

Culturally, a lot of US men equate "fitted" with being "tight" and "feminine" which is why they wear clothes a size up or more. But even at the right size the cuts tend to be boxier and baggier as you guys have been saying.

So as a U.S. boy I have stay with more designer brands or with brands that make international lines (i.e. Nike) and buy from those lines.

I love shopping in other countries. *sigh*

  9. I'm really digging this whole collection, and normally I hate FILA. Still not forgiving that brown monstrosity they once made Kimmie C wear, but this a good start on the road to redemption.

  10. Sveta's skirt is actually cute for once -- are those pleats I see???

  11. is it me, or does fila never make good looking clothes? bleh.

  12. like you, i like the retro colours...sweet.
