Quote of the Day: Rafa on Rafa

My iPod, my laptop and probably my Playstation, well not really, I suppose the company of someone from my team instead of the PS... But if I can have those 4 even better...

- Rafael Nadal on the three things he can't live without on the road

Are you insane Rafa? Screw the "someone from my team" crap. You MUST bring the Playstation.

¿Por qué? Mira.

  1. Are you sure he said, "someone from my team," and not "someone from DTL"?

  2. true natch.

"someone from my team" must be code for "a few lusty Rafanatics from DtL to be waiting for me at my hotel room ready to play strip playstation, undies optional. Less to worry about taking off, no? I might bring Gilles too!"

    I mean, that's what I read.

  3. I told you that he sends encoded messages to the Rafanatics.

  4. "my team" is totally code for DtL Rafanatics...i'm 100% sure. :)

  5. Yes, that must be it. It sounds just like him. If he brings Tommy Haat, I mean Haas, dibs on him. That must be what he meant by bringing 4 with him. Tommy, Gilles...and who else??? I vote for Ross or Dokic coach (who cares what his name is.)

  6. Natch, I vote for Yoann Gourcuff even though he plays soccer instead of tennis. Gosh, I'm obsessed with him today but can you blame me? Look at him!

  8. Sorry, Lilly, you can have him. He's not my bag, baby.
However, I DO relate to obsessing over someone you find hot. Am I right, Rich...???

  9. Someone from his team?! I wouldn't be happy if I were Xisca right now. Didn't he say once that his perfect day wouldn't include sex or something like that? Maybe he's waiting for you, DTL Rafanatics!

  10. True enough Sara - good looking out!

Xisca = beard? Me thinks maybe so now. And yes, she should be worried if she didn't make the top three or four. Ouch.

  11. Yes, there was a time when I also suspected Xisca to be a beard. Now, I don't know. That's why I said that about Xisca. It's strange that he didn't include her. By the way, would any of you be so kind as to explain to me the origin of "beard"? English is not my first language and, although I know what it means, I don't know where it came from. Thanks in advance!

  12. Anon,
He probably didn't mention Xisca because he doesn't speak about her very much. I think he's trying to keep his private life, well...private. Like I said, gay or straight, I wouldn't kick him out of bed.

Beard is the facial hair a man grows. Back in the day, it could be used as a disguise to hide the man's true identity. A man might grow a beard or wear a false beard and glasses to avoid detection. That's why the word "beard" is used. I hope that helps. I tried to keep my English simple to help. :)

  13. Thanks so much, Natch! And you're probably right, he didn't mention Xisca to keep his personal life private. By the way, I LOL every time I read one of your posts. Keep up the good work! :)

  14. Thanks, Anon. You know what? I didn't do a very good job describing beard. I was trying to separate the way it was used in the past to physically disguise a man, compared to today's use. I think a better example would be Saddam Hussein. When the Americans were looking for him, he grew a beard and his hair out, so he couldn't be easily identified. Now, we use "beard" to describe a woman posing as a closeted gay man's girlfriend. In other words, he doesn't want the fact that he's gay to be revealed, so she becomes his "beard". I hope that makes better sense.

  15. natch: if i was gay (and i'm not...really) then i would say this knowledge was drawn from personal experience.

  16. Natch, you did a good job the first time, I understood what you meant. Thanks again!
I guess there must be more than one beard in the tennis world. It seems to be difficult for a pro athlete to come out of the closet, and that's sad.

That is some code breaking right there, Rich. I'm so proud of you.

  18. Haha, I laughed so hard when I read this in Rafa's Q&A section. He's the cutest.

And I like the code. If he's gonna bring 3 friends of his, I'm going for Nole, Gilles and Speedy Ferrer. Bring on the drool!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. BTW... poor Nole!!!

He broke my heart when he had to retire - poor thing! He always seems to struggle with the heat. :-(

It must be terrible to have to give up on defending your title this way.

  20. Rich,
Let's just say I know a few people who live in Hollywood...

  21. DOOOOO TELL!!! Hahaha only if you won't have to be killed after revealing the info...then, forget it. We'd like to keep you around these here parts.
